<p><strong><em>Traditional Cherry Pie</em></strong><strong><em> </em></strong></p>
<p>George Washington&#8217;s favorite dessert can be yours, too.</p>
<ul>
<li>2 (16-ounce) cans unsweetened tart cherries or 4 cups frozen unsweetened tart cherries</li>
<li>1 cup granulated sugar</li>
<li>3 tablespoons quick-cooking tapioca</li>
<li>1/2 teaspoon almond extract</li>
<li>Pastry for 2-crust, 9-inch pie</li>
<li>2 tablespoons butter or margarine</li>
<li>1/2 tablespoon of cherry juice concentrate</li>
</ul>
<p>If using canned cherries, drain them well. Discard the juice or save for<br />
another use. If using frozen cherries, it is not necessary to thaw them.<br />
Combine well drained canned cherries or frozen cherries, granulated sugar,<br />
tapioca and almond extract in a large mixing bowl; mix well. Let stand 15<br />
minutes.</p>
<p>Line a 9-inch pie plate with pastry; fill with cherry mixture. Dot with<br />
butter. Adjust top crust, cutting slits for steam to escape, or cut top crust<br />
into strips and make a lattice-top pie.</p>
<p>Bake in a preheated 400-degree oven 50 to 55 minutes, or until crust is<br />
golden brown and filling is bubbly.</p>
<p>Makes 8 servings.</p>

<li>3 cups water</li>

<li>1 Tbsp orange peel, grated</li>

<p>Directions:</p>

Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Before serving, stir in orange and lemon juices, orange peel, and brown sugar. Serve warm as soup or dessert. Serve chilled with frozen vanilla yogurt.</p>

1 cup shredded jicama<br />

½ cup snipped fresh cilantro<br />
½ cup diced red onion</p>
<p>Dressing:<br />
2 Tbsp olive oil<br />
2 Tbsp fresh lime juice<br />
2 Tbsp frozen lime<strong> juice concentrate</strong>, thawed<br />
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced<br />
½ tsp lime zest<br />
1/2 tsp <strong>cherry juice</strong> concentrate<br />
¼ tsp each chili powder, ground cumin and salt</p>
<p>In large serving bowl, combine ingredients for Slaw. In small saucepan, combine Dressing ingredients; heat to boil. Pour over salad and toss gently to coat.</p>

1 Tbsp pickled ginger strips, optional<br />
4 cups mixed greens</p>

¼ cup chopped onion<br />
1 clove garlic, finely chopped<br />
2 Tbsp honey<br />
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice<br />
1 tsp freshly grated lemon peel<br />
½ tsp salt<br />
¼ tsp crushed red pepper flakes</p>
<p>In large saucepan, combine all ingredients including <strong>cherry juice</strong>; bring to a boil over medium-high hear. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, 30 minutes or until mixture thickens, stirring frequently. Great served over grilled salmon.</p>
